Disconnected

2019

Plaster, modroc, mobile phones.

For this project I wanted to explore the idea that technology and social media were originally created to connect people around the world, when in reality they often lead to you ignoring those closest to you.

The life size figures represent a woman concentrating on her phone and a man distracted by a phone call. Both of these characters are ignoring the figures representing an elderly man holding a baby – that are right by them.

The aim for this piece was to show how it can be really easy to get caught up in social media, or work, and miss the people, events and things that are right there by us.

I deliberately avoided giving the figures features so the viewer has, literally, a blank canvas to complete the picture they see.
