Time Slipping Away

2018

Ice, Ranunculus flower.

Representing the fragility of life, this ice sculpture melted during the course of the exhibition. Slowly, the melting ice revealed a flower which represents the beautiful memories that are left of a person when they are no longer with us.

The ice was my chosen material as I wanted to show how nothing is forever and life, like ice, ultimately melts away. To do this, my sculpture needed to change throughout the exhibition. The strong message I found with ice as a medium, is it will inevitably melt when on display. Even though you can delay the inevitable, it will still change and perhaps deteriorate in another way. Eventually the ice sculpture will become unrecognisable, whether it has melted, or broken.
